Health insurance

We offer a health insurance scheme for people whose stays in France come under our management, if they don’t have suitable coverage already. The scheme is open to foreign students and interns who are not eligible for the standard “student” scheme under the French social security system (because they are aged over 28 or attending a non-listed higher education centre). Coverage is also available for high-status foreign visitors spending a few weeks in France, and to French experts and students on missions abroad.

Comprehensive coverage for people staying in France

The Égide health insurance scheme includes full or partial reimbursement of healthcare expenses (doctor’s and hospital fees), civil liability cover, and repatriation to the country of origin in the event of sickness, accident or death.  There’s also legal assistance, a lump-sum payment on invalidity arising from sickness or accident, and an indemnity to an appointed person in the event of death. The Égide health insurance scheme is not a travel insurance policy or a mutual scheme. Its purpose is solely to cover risks during the person’s stay in France. So it excludes coverage for any sickness that the person might have contracted before arriving in France.

Custom cover

The Égide health insurance scheme includes a number of variants, adapted to different profiles and cover requirements. The choice will depend on the type of service sought (as regards reimbursement amounts and rates), the location and duration of the stay in France, and the person’s status and family situation:

  • The “Mainland France 80% & 100%” variants address foreign students, interns and researchers during their stay in France.
  • The “Family” variant provides coverage to grantholders and their families during their stay in France (especially for researchers and interns on long stays).
  • The “Overseas” variant is for French students and researchers undertaking courses overseas, French experts on overseas missions, and foreign students whose courses in France also involve spells outside the country.
  • The “Invitation” variant is exclusively reserved for guest personalities during their stays in France.
  • The Assistance & civil liability” variant is available to grantholders who already have health insurance but need broader coverage.

Integrated system, for greater efficiency

Égide runs its own integrated welfare system, covering claims processing through to reimbursement of healthcare costs. We take on the bulk of claims directly, working with advisory input from a consultant doctor. And we offer local access, throughout France, to a network of healthcare professionals.

In 2008, Égide provided health insurance coverage for 12,141 foreign students and interns.
Under the scheme, healthcare expenses were reimbursed to 1,864 grantholders.
Healthcare reimbursed were made to 3,100 beneficiaries in all.
